NEW DELHI: India have made it to the World Test Championship finals twice and both times have tasted defeat – first against New Zealand in 2021, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and then against Australia in 2023 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
The WTC Final is a one-off match played at a neutral venue to decide the champion.
Australian broadcaster Fox Cricket shared a video on their official X handle with greats of the game Ravi Shastri, Adam Gilcrist and David Warner, while commentating on the first Test between India and Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, are deliberating on the duration of the WTC Final.
The clip starts with Warner asking Shastri and Gilchrist about their thoughts on the World Test Championship, saying it’s just one game.
Shastri responds, “Should be three, best of three.”
Warner agrees and says, “Because so much can happen in one game. Crazy”
Gilchrist joins in and says, “Two you program, build-up to the one-off game, what you reckon one at Lord’s, one is each country f the two participants?”
Warner adds, “What do you reckon like basketball, like once it’s done, it’s done, so if it’s 2-0, you don’t play the third one?”
Gilchrist replies, “Yeah!”

India need to win four Tests in Australia to directly qualify for the World Test Championships final that is scheduled to be held at Lord’s in June 2025.
