Persistent rain in Brisbane led to the abandonment of play on the first day of the third Test between India and Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
At stumps on Day 1, Australia’s score stood at 28 without loss. Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on 19 runs from 47 balls, while Nathan McSweeney was on 4 runs from 33 deliveries.
“Play on Day 1 in Brisbane has been stopped due to rain. Play will resume tomorrow, with all following days starting at 09:50 AM local time (5:20 AM IST), and a minimum of 98 overs will be bowled,” read an official update.
Despite a large turnout of fans eager to witness the match, rain significantly disrupted the day’s play, allowing only 13.2 overs to be bowled.
Overcast conditions hinted at the possibility of rain, which ultimately limited the first session to just 13.2 overs. No further play was possible for the remainder of the day.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field, hoping to capitalise on the overcast conditions at The Gabba.
