In Squid Game season two, a pair of mother and son entered to test their luck and pay off the heavy debts mounting on them.

But, in the game, they faced their worst fears, including the scare of dying at any moment in the deadly games.

Yang Dong-geun, who plays Yong-sik/Player 007, recalled the scene where he somewhat left his mother to save himself.

“I didn’t really know exactly what emotion I was supposed to express. We shot this scene over, and over, and over again, take after take… And in my personal life, I am very distant from my own mom,” he told EW.

“My mom in reality is very ferocious and scary — we don’t have the type of relationship where we share our inner thoughts or feelings, so it was strange to have that on set and to be able to act in a way that these two people have that relationship,” the 45-year-old continued.

“Doing that was difficult, being able to express that in a truthful way because that isn’t actually my lived reality.”

Kang Ae-sim, who plays Geum-ja/Player 149, said her on-screen character did not nestle any ill feelings toward her son after his apology.

“They are playing a game of life and death,” the actress told the outlet. “Rather than feeling this resentment over his betrayal, I think her focus really is that her son is alive.”

“And because he is alive, the other things that occurred in the process of the game are less important,” she concluded.
