Art Garfunkel on reunion with Paul Simon

Art Garfunkel shed some light on his relationship with former music collaborator Paul Simon.

Garfunkel recently shed light on his relationship with former collaborator during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The 83-year-old folk singer, joined by his son Art Garfunkel Jr. as part of their duo Garfunkel & Garfunkel, reflected on reconnecting with Simon after years of distance.

When host Kelly Ripa asked, “Do you think you’ll ever reconnect with Paul Simon?” Garfunkel Sr. responded candidly.

“This is the question they always ask me about that,” he shared.

“I can’t speak for him. It’s really his life. I know we met up recently for the first time in years. We had a period of estrangement for some years until — he has a son that moved into the place that I live in, and I knew I was going to run into Harper [Simon]. Harper set up a dinner, and Paul and I hung out, first time in years. And it was very touching.”

Garfunkel also addressed their reunion in a recent interview with The Times, published on Nov. 11.

“First time we’d been together in many years,” he said, recalling their meeting earlier this fall. “I looked at Paul and said, ‘What happened? Why haven’t we seen each other?’ Paul mentioned an old interview where I said some stuff.”

Simon & Garfunkel rose to fame between 1964 and 1970, releasing five studio albums, including hits like Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Despite their musical success, the duo’s relationship has been famously strained. They’ve reunited on rare occasions, such as their iconic 1981 benefit concert in Central Park, but have remained distant for much of the past few decades.
