When it comes to prosthetics, Jim Carrey knows all there is to know after movies like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and The Mask.
Carrey has opened up about which of the prosthetics was the hardest to endure, and how they compare to each other.
In Sonic the Hedgehog movies, Carrey plays villain Dr. Robotnik and dons a huge mustache with a bald head look. For Sonic the Hedgehog 3, he wore old age makeup to portray the character’s grandfather Professor Gerald Robotnik.
Yet, the actor says the experience was actually fun and nothing like what he had to go through to play the Grinch.
“The group was easy. They made it, kind of, really as simple as the process could be, and Mark Coulier and his group really, really did a fantastic job,” he shared. “And we had a blast. I mean, we just had a nutty time in the trailer.”
“There was no challenge like The Grinch. [For] The Grinch, I had to be trained by a guy who actually tells CIA people and operatives how to endure torture. That’s how I got through The Grinch. So that was the worst one,” he added.
In the Grinch, Carrey was covered in green hair, with his face covered in prosthetics and yellow lenses in his eyes to transform him into the cynical Christmas-hating character.
“The Mask was the prep for that one, and I was pretty challenged by that,” Jim Carrey said of the 1994 comedy co-starring Cameron Diaz.
