A sequel to Barbie has been under discussion after the original film raked in over a billion dollars at the box office.
The Hollywood Reporter, citing a well-placed source, said the movie’s co-writers, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, are in the “early stages” of developing a story idea for Barbie 2.
The scoop reportedly sparked an exciting reaction among the Barbie fanbase.
However, the Warner Bros, the studio behind the hit film, and a rep for the directors poured a cold water on the excitement.
“There is no legitimacy to this reporting,” while the network’s spox said, “THR’s reporting is inaccurate.”
Earlier, there were reports that Ryan Gosling, who played Ken, wanted to return to the franchise because of the success the film generated for him.
“Barbie made him a permanent A-lister and exceeded all expectations,” the insider told Life & Style.
“And his Oscars singing performance made him an instant Hollywood legend and won him tons of new fans,” the tipster tattled.
“The Fall Guy bombed, and Ryan dropping out of Wolf Man late last year was the end of a job that could have earned him many millions more,” the mole squealed.
“It’s become increasingly clear that more Barbie is the only sure bet he’s got,” the insider concluded.
