Ryan Reynolds says Martha Stewart was ‘valid’ for calling him ‘not funny’

Ryan Reynolds is taking Martha Stewart’s lighthearted jab in stride.

The Deadpool star once again responded to Stewart calling him “not so funny” in real life, telling The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published December 13 that it’s actually an “incredibly valid observation.”

Reynolds, known for his sharp wit on screen, explained, “Lots of people would say I’m very serious if they met me… Why would people ever assume the way they see you on camera is how you’re going to be in real life?”

Reynolds reflected on how public personas can create false expectations, admitting, “I do it, too. I’m a fan of people, and when I meet them, I want to see little glimpses of that.” He added that in the entertainment business, “you’re in trouble” if you can’t handle a bit of playful criticism.

Stewart, an 88-year-old lifestyle icon and neighbour of Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, made the comments on Bilt Rewards’ Rent Free game show in November. “He can act funny, but he isn’t funny,” she quipped, while also praising him as a “good actor.”

Reynolds joined in on the joke, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to respond: “I’d disagree with her. But I tried that once.” Even Hugh Jackman, Reynolds’ longtime frenemy and co-star, piled on, replying, “Finally someone says it.”
