Paris Hilton is turning her painful past into a powerful push for change.
On Monday, December 16, the 42-year-old heiress and advocate shared an open letter on Instagram, urging the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act before the holiday recess.
“Silence doesn’t heal — it only protects the people that caused the harm,” Hilton wrote, sharing her personal experience of abuse as a teenager in youth treatment facilities.
The reality TV star recalled harrowing details from her time at Provo Canyon School in Utah, where she says she endured physical restraint, sexual abuse, and relentless bullying. “I was told I didn’t matter… For years, I lived with the weight of that trauma,” she wrote, explaining how advocacy helped her heal.
She added, “Let’s turn pain into purpose and protect the most vulnerable among us.”
The bill recently passed unanimously in the Senate, marking a major step forward after years of lobbying. Hilton celebrated this milestone but emphasised that “the journey isn’t over” until the bill becomes law.
Her plea to lawmakers was deeply personal, describing advocacy as “the most challenging and rewarding” chapter of her life.
Hilton — now a mom of two — has been a tireless advocate, making regular trips to Washington since 2021 to push for reform. “This is my lifelong mission,” she told ABC News. “I will not stop fighting for these children.”
