Sabrina Carpenter opened up about her first ever experience singing for the crowd in her home town in Pennsylvania.
In an interview with the Vouge magazine, the Please Please Please singer revealed that she used to sing “Happy Birthday” to patrons of a local pub as a young child.Â
The 25-year-old artist told the outlet that she was “a sarcastic, snarky kid from day one” and realised at an early age that she had a talent for singing.
The Bad Chem crooner recalled how her family would go out at a local Irish pub, Limeport Inn, and a waitress named Patty would call Carpenter to sing the birthday song for fellow customers.
“That was a short-lived dream, but also kind of my first real audience,” the Girl Meets World alum told the magazine.
She said that sometimes they paid her however, her mother made her give the money back. Deciding to focus on her singing career, Carpenter at age of nine, entered a singing contest headed by Miley Cyrus and gained a spot in the top three finalists.
“After that contest ended – did not win, got to meet Miley, though, big perk I kept doing it because I just loved it so much,” she added.
Carpenter, at aged 10, started uploading videos of herself singing to YouTube. She sang covers of songs by Aguilera, Taylor Swift, Adele, Ozzy Osbourne, and Guns N’ Roses and then at 12 years old, she signed her first record deal with Disney Music Group’s Hollywood Records.
Recently, Carpenter won her first-ever Grammy award for the Best Pop Solo performance (Espresso) and Best pop Vocal album (Short n’ Sweet).
