Chase Stokes didn’t earn his role in Outer Banks easily, he had to endure fair share of stress from his audition to get the role of John B. Routledge.
In a recent episode of Podcrushed, the actor opened up about his audition experience, revealing that he felt jittery knowing he would be auditioning in front of the same executives with whom he had previously “absolutely effed up” his audition for Stranger Things.
Stokes, 32, recalled that his first audition for Outer Banks went smoothly, and he was invited back the next day to meet with the executives.
“I show up the next day,” he shared, “and Jonas Pate, the creator and director of our show, walks in and says, ‘Hey, surprise!’ I was like, ‘What?’ he explained, ‘Surprise, they’re all here in the conference room. I didn’t want you to over-prepare because that might get you too in your head.'”
Feeling already rattled, Stokes entered the room and spotted the executives from Stranger Things, “I thought, Oh, I’m so screwed. There’s nothing about this that’s going to go well,” he recalled.
To clear his mind, he stepped outside and sat by the curb, sobbing. However, with his eye for talent, Pate encouraged him to return and give it his all.
The first five episodes of the fourth season of Outer Banks premiered on Netflix on October 10.
