The winter season brings a higher risk of diseases for children, particularly an increased risk of pneumonia. It is crucial to recognise the early symptoms of pneumonia and treat them promptly.

Pneumonia symptoms include a persistent cough, high fever, difficulty in breathing or rapid breathing, chest pain, weakness, blueness of the lips or nails, loss of appetite, and lethargy. If any of these symptoms appear, consulting a doctor immediately is important.

Ayush Medical Officer Mohammad Iqbal stresses the importance of taking special care of children during this season and suggests some simple measures to protect their health:

  1. Dress children in warm clothes, ensuring that their head, ears, and feet are covered.
  2. Allow sunlight into the house, as the vitamin D from sunlight strengthens immunity. If the air is too dry, use a humidifier to maintain moisture in the room.
  3. Ensure that children receive a balanced diet that includes green vegetables, seasonal fruits, and hot soups.
  4. A mixture of honey and ginger provides relief from a sore throat and cough, while tulsi leaves and turmeric milk help boost children’s immunity.
  5. Steaming helps keep the respiratory system clear and protects children from colds and coughs. Avoid cold foods like ice cream or cold drinks.

According to the Ayush medical officer, natural remedies are the best way to strengthen children’s immunity.
